Monday Moment’s Inside: Brunettes on Broad

Blogging is a newer career in the fashion industry, yet it is quickly rising to the top. Most designers want bloggers at the fashion shows to recap and spread the word about what’s new and hot.  On B and B, Jordanna shares with her fan base different must have products. In return, brands love her!  She is sharing her story with us today!

Name and Blog Name:  Jordanna Arbogast, Brunettes on Broad

Tell us a little bit about your background:

I studied Fashion Merchandising at West Virginia University and took styling and trend forecasting courses abroad in Paris, France.  Right out of college, I interned in a small showroom in NYC called A Supreme Agent.  It was a wonderful experience that allowed me to see a more behind the scenes look into the fashion industry (tradeshows, showroom appointments with buyers, traveling to clients with hundreds of shoe samples in rolling luggage through the NYC subway, etc).  It was not glamorous by any means, but it was thrilling and every day felt like a new adventure.   I knew then that I was born to work in the fashion industry.

How did you start your blog and why?

I started working for a bank to have a normal M-F, 9-5 schedule after becoming burnt out with the retail industry hours.  I missed doing something fashion related so my boyfriend actually gave me the idea to start a shopping blog.

What is your blog about?

Brunettes on Broad is a shopping/lifestyle blog where readers can come to find the hottest styles and trends on the market.  Whether it’s fashion, beauty products, home décor or an amazing recipe, B on B has you covered.

What are the best and worst things about being a blogger?

The worst would be finding the time and energy in the evenings and weekends after my 9-5 job to keep up with everything.  It can be very time consuming doing it all on your own, which is why I LOVE having guest bloggers and other contributors help me out!  The best for me is getting to do something that I truly love and know I am good at.  Networking with other great bloggers is fun too, and freebies are a pretty fantastic blogger perk!

What are the things you like most about your career?

Since starting my blog, I have come across some pretty awesome bloggers.  I love networking and meeting new people in the blogging industry.  It’s exciting to see my blog grow and gain support more and more each day.

What are some of your top sources of inspiration?

I have always been drawn to anything French or Parisian.  It’s in my blood, I can’t help it.  Antiques and vintage finds excite me!  I get that from my mom.  My favorite designers/brands/stores are Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Prada, C. Wonder, Target…it’s an eclectic list, but I love mixing designer apparel with budget-friendly pieces!

What is a typical day like?

I try to get up early and work on a post or two before I go to work.  My lunch break normally consists of checking emails on my phone and keeping up with my twitter, facebook, pinterest, and instagram accounts.  After getting home in the evening, working out and having dinner, I usually answer emails, work on more posts and look for anything on the web that’s “blog worthy”.

What are some of your greatest accomplishments?

Starting my own blog is something I am very proud of!  It has been a lot of hard work and a learning experience to say the least.

What would be your advice to someone wanting to start a blog?

Make sure you have the time because it takes a lot of dedication to maintain a blog.  Use social media as much as possible to get yourself maximum exposure.  You have to really put yourself out there and be consistent with your posts if you want loyal followers.

What’s your philosophy of life?

There’s always something to smile about.  If something in your life is making you unhappy, do something to change it.
