Teagan’s Favorite Things- Beauty Products

It’s time for another edition of “Teagan’s Favorite Things”!  This time it will be all about beauty products. Recently, I’ve been trying to learn more about makeup and how to do different makeup tricks. Up until then, I had been doing my makeup the same way for years. I’ve learned a few things recently that I will share with you today. I have also found some products that have made a world of a difference when it comes to my daily makeup routine. Enjoy!

1. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Glow Sheers Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Let me start out by saying, I LOVE this product. I never thought that I needed a tinted moisturizer because I have such fair skin. Boy, was I wrong. I recently bought this item in the “light to medium” shade at Target because it was recommended to me. I figured I’d try it because I like to experiment with new things occasionally. After I wash and moisturize my face (this product does not replace the need for a regular moisturizer), I dab a little bit of this all over my face. Then I brush it all over to even it out. My skin immediately looks like it has an even tone. It also reduces red spots and the appearance of acne scars. Another plus is that when I put my powder on over it, it stays on 10x longer than it used to. Again, I highly recommend this product!

2. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 25

If you’re like me, you have the misfortune of having dark circles under your eyes all the time. I have always hated the fact that I looked so tired all the time no matter how much powder I added under my eyes. This brightening eye perfector really does the trick. I picked this up in the “fair” shade on the same day that I bought the moisturizer. I heard that you need a more heavy duty concealer for under the eyes. I put this on after the tinted moisturizer. I dab a little under my eyes, at the corners of my eyes and even on the lids (this helps your eye shadow stay on longer, just like the powder!). Once I blend it in, I instantly look more awake and vibrant. I even put a little bit of this on when I don’t wear makeup, to lessen my dark circles. I now swear by this and wouldn’t want to wear makeup without it.

3. Forever 21 Love & Beauty Bronzer

Screen Shot 2015-06-28 at 5.41.56 PM

I had always wanted to learn how to “contour” my face but was scared to try (I have never been very successful when trying new makeup tricks). I kept seeing celebs rocking this makeup style and finally decided to learn how to do it myself. I went on youtube and watched a ton of tutorials (my favorite videos were from beauty blogger, Jaclyn Hill).  Once I felt comfortable enough to try it myself, I pulled out some bronzer that I had bought at Forever 21 a month or two ago. Now, when I bought this bronzer, I was in the check out line of a Los Angeles Forever 21. It was just an impulse purchase that I grabbed while I was waiting in the long line. Never did I think I would love this product so much. I bought the “tan” shade, so it wasn’t too harsh. After I made my first attempt, I loved it! I applied it around my hairline, below my cheekbones, and on my jawline. I immediately noticed that my cheekbones seemed more prominent and my face looked warmer overall. It’s great for everyday glam or for a night out on the town. It’s affordable too, which is always a plus!

4. e.l.f. Powder Brush

Screen Shot 2015-06-28 at 5.44.37 PM

This is what I use to apply the bronzer that I just described. It’s sort of a strange shape, but it really works! It’s great for buffing out the makeup lines around the hairline and jawline. It’s especially effective when contouring because it blends in the bronzer really well. Better yet, it was $3 at Target. It doesn’t get any better than that, folks.

 5. Forever 21 Contoured Makeup Blender Sponge

Screen Shot 2015-06-28 at 5.40.24 PM

Now onto another funky looking tool, the makeup sponge. I had seen this sponge on literally every makeup tutorial video that I watched, so of course, I had to buy one. As the name describes, this sponge is great for contouring and blending. It has a different effect than a brush does. It is really helpful when using liquid based makeup. I would stick to the brush for powder makeup, but I would definitely use this sponge if you’re using liquid makeup.

6. NYC Expert Last Lip Color in “Berry Me”

Over the past couple of years I have been collecting different shades of lipstick. Lipstick is one of my favorite accessories, it can completely transform a look. One of my favorite shades right now is berry. It is a darker shade of pinky/purple with a little brown mixed in. I think this color is so unique and chic. It mixes rebel with beauty. Try it out, you won’t regret it!

That’s the end of the list! I hope you have enjoyed reading about some of my new favorite beauty products and tricks. Try some of them out! It’s always fun to switch up your makeup routine a bit.

4th of July Fashion and Food

July is almost here which means it’s time to get ready for all of those 4th of July parties. When you get invited to a party, you typically ask yourself two things: “What am I going to wear?” and “What am I going to bring?” Well, I’ve got you covered. I’m about to give you a few ideas on what type of outfit you can put together and what type of appetizers or deserts you can bring to a party on the 4th.

The Outfit

Screen Shot 2015-06-27 at 8.17.22 PM

The outfit you choose is a really important part of any Independence Day party. Obviously, you want to stick with the red, white and blue color scheme. You can do this in many ways. Some people love to go all out and wear as much R,W&B as possible. If you want to be more chic than festive, you can stick to the minimal. Pair a blue dress with some white heels or sneakers and add a red lip or a simple red necklace. It’s also a great excuse to bring out those daisy dukes that you never wear. Make sure you dress for the weather because chances are, it’s going to be hot, hot, hot. You can mix and match any of the items in the picture above. Have fun with it, it’s a holiday after all!

The Food

Food is probably THE most important part of any party. Typically, it’s in good manners to bring a dish to any party that you go to. When it’s a 4th of July party, just like the outfits, it’s fun to stick with the theme. I’ve found some really cute, easy and festive dishes that you can bring to a party.

Firecracker Dogs

First, we have the firecracker dogs. Aren’t these adorable? This twist on a hot dog/pig in a blanket is fun for kids and adults! If you’re a vegetarian like me, you can use veggie dogs instead of hotdogs. You can read the recipe here.

4th of July Fruit Salad

Screen Shot 2015-06-27 at 8.16.45 PM

Next, we have the 4th of July Fruit Salad. Another cute dish, and it’s healthy! It’s also a great dessert for a hot day. It is really easy to make. You just cut up some watermelon with a star shaped cookie cutter, cut up some strawberries and throw in some blueberries. Voila! It’s that easy. You can check out the recipe here.

So there we have it, some outfit and food tips for this year’s 4th of July parties. I hope you all have a great Independence Day! Have fun, stay cool and be safe!

Sustainable Products for an Eco-Friendly Lifestyle

As we all know, the “going green” movement has been really big for a long time. We are now starting to see how some of our past actions are effecting the planet. Many people try to “go green” in as many ways as possible. Although this is great and I commend them, you don’t have to become a eco-extremist to make a difference. Some of us want to see change but don’t have the time or money to switch up our whole lifestyle. There are lots of small things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. One of those things is purchasing eco-friendly or sustainable products. In this post, I have come up with a list of products that I think are great for any beginner “greenie”. Enjoy!

H&M Conscious Collection
Screen Shot 2015-06-23 at 11.17.03 AM

H&M launched their Conscious Collection a few years ago in an effort to try and reduce their carbon footprint. They have started to use either organic or recycled cotton to produce their clothes. They also utilize organic hemp along with recycled wool and plastic. Once you are ready to get rid of your H&M outfit, their Garment Collection Program is available to take your garment and eventually turn it into a brand new one. H&M is one of the first fast fashion companies to take a stand on environmental sustainability.

Stelari’s Free Flow Tank

Stelari is a bohemian chic yoga wear line made right here in the U.S.. Stelari’s Free Flow tanks are not only soft on your skin, they are also soft on the environment. Made out of 94% recycled materials, these tank tops are cute, comfortable and sustainable.

Olsenhaus Shoes

Olsenhaus is a pure vegan brand that focuses on truth and transparency. To create their products, they use renewable plant-based materials. They also use up-cycled and recycled materials as much as possible. Their love for animals and the planet shines through their well-thought-out merchandise.

BARE Oaxaca Duffel

BareMade is an eco-friendly brand that was launched by actress Jessica Biel’s brother, Justin Biel. The Oaxaca II Duffel Bag is stylish, practical and durable. It is also sustainable, made out of up-cycled coffee sacks. As a unique design element, no bag is ever the same. The print on each bag will always be slightly different.

Boxed Water

Water in a what?!? Yes, you read that correctly. They are now selling boxed water that looks very similar to a milk carton. Boxed water has kicked bottled water off to the side. The creators of this company wanted to design a disposable water “bottle” that was safer for the environment. The boxes are made from paper, which is sustainable. They use trees that are grown in well managed forests where they are constantly replanted. The boxes are also recyclable. Not only did they achieve their goal of creating an eco-friendly water bottle company, they also started a campaign to give back. Every time someone posts a picture of the boxed water on social media, the company will plant two trees. What a great marketing campaign, right?!

Tarte Cosmetics “Down to Earth” Kit

Makeup brand Tarte Cosmetics and actress Lauren Conrad have teamed up to create the “Down to Earth” makeup kit. This kit comes in an eco-friendly makeup bag filled with LC’s favorite products. On top of that, 20% of the proceeds go to Wine to Water, a charity that provides clean drinking water to countries all around the world.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

To celebrate Earth Day, Kiehl’s recruited celebs like Florence Welch and Mark Ruffalo to create art that would be placed on the product label of their Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque. What’s even cooler is that 100% of the proceeds go towards Recycle Across America, a non-profit that works to make recycling more simple and efficient.

These are just a few examples of products that were made with environmental stability in mind. There are so many more out there. I suggest that if you’re interested, read the labels on the things that you purchase. Are they made with sustainable materials? Are they recyclable? Do some research and find out which companies are making an effort and which aren’t. If we become informed and demand change, it will happen!

Teagan’s Favorite Things- Hair Care Products

Happy Tuesday! Today, I’m going to be telling you all about some of my favorite hair care products. All of these products can be found at a low price at any of your local drugstores (Walgreens, CVS, etc.). Enjoy!

1. Bed Head Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo

Behold, every girl’s “dirty little secret,” dry shampoo. I would not survive without this stuff because my hair tends to become greasy really fast. Once I notice my hair starting to look dirty, I grab this, spray a little on and brush it through. It works like a charm. Also, if you are loving your hairstyle and don’t want to say goodbye to it just yet, spray a little of this on your hair and it will be good for atleast another day. This, of course, does not replace the need for regular shampoo. 🙂

2. L’Oreal Advanced Haircare-Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Shampoo and Conditioner

Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 9.30.06 PM

I’m normally not too picky when it comes to shampoo and conditioner. Although, after seeing the commercial for this product, I was intrigued and wanted to try it. Once I tried it, it seemed like any other shampoo/conditioner that I had tried before, until I began to blow-dry my hair. I instantly noticed a difference. My hair began to dry straight instead of my usual huge, frizzy, wavy mess. After that, I just had to go back over it with my straightener for a few minutes. It cut my straightening routine in half! If you regularly flatiron your hair, I highly recommend this stuff.

3. It’s a 10- Miracle Leave-in Plus Keratin

Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 12.49.41 PM

This next product is one that I use as a detangler after I get out of the shower. However, it does a lot more than just detangle. The Keratin is really healthy for your hair. It protects against heat if you want to blow-dry, straighten or curl it. It also de-frizzes and adds shine and strength to the hair. I usually spray two or three pumps all over my hair and then comb it through. It can seem kind of costly depending on what size bottle you buy, but it lasts a long time if you use it sparingly. It really is worth it.

4. John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray

Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 12.52.22 PM

This sea spray is perfect for summertime. Many of us want to achieve that natural “just got out of the ocean” beachy hairstyle. This is the best product that I have found that achieves this look. Plus, it smells AMAZING. “Beach Blonde” is written on the bottle but ATTENTION BRUNETTES, it’s not just for blondes. People with any hair types and colors can use this product.

5. “No Crease” Silk Hair Ties

Last but certainly not least, you’re going to need to have something to tie up all your hair during these hot summer months. After I discovered these hair ties, I ditched all of my regular elastic ties. These don’t give you headaches and pull your hairs like other ties do. They also don’t leave creases in your hair when you take them out of the ponytail. As an added bonus, they look like cute bracelets when you wear them on your wrist!

That’s the end of the list! Hopefully you just found your new favorite hair care product! As always, thanks for reading!

My Interview with a Fashion Intern

This weekend I had the opportunity to interview one of my closest friends and fellow college student, Audrianna Lyles. She is currently doing her summer internship with a fashion design team in New York City. I thought it would be great to hear and share what she has to say about finding an internship in a big city and what all she has learned so far. Enjoy!

What made you want to do an internship in NYC?

AL: It has always been a top goal of mine, ever since I began college. Having that NYC Design internship was a mini dream for myself.

How did you find it? Was it hard to find?

AL: I found this internship on internships.com, and no it was not hard. I actually was just trying to get any internship, but my prayers were answered and I ended up with an amazing internship with a growing brand.

How did you find the money to afford living in NYC for the summer?

AL: I worked hard over the holiday, and did a lot of fundraising and saving. I also got generous donations from family/friends and members from my church.

How did you find short-term housing?

AL: From the fashion study tour that I did with TTU last summer, the agency that did our tours emailed us all a list of internships and summer housing options. Then I went from there going down the line of places until I found the best one for me.

What is your internship all about? What is the brand?

AL: My internship is all about design, and working with the design team at ELOQUII.

What does your typical day look like?

AL: Depends on the week, we have photoshoot weeks and regular weeks I guess you can say and as an intern you experience both. My days start at 9 every morning. I wake up and run to the nearest coffee shop. Funny right… but sometimes you need that pick me up to get you ready for a busy day. Then I make it to the studio and the games begin, sometimes there are mini projects like filtering the samples or the color samples. Attending meetings, and even watching the start of a new collection. Since this is a fast fashion company, the design process is on rotation all the time. New things, new people, and loads of fun.

What is the most important thing that you’ve learned so far?

AL: That’s a hard question. To be honest the real world design experience has been a major eye opener and I believe that has been the most important thing. Actually seeing and doing what I’ve been telling myself for years that I wanted to do.

What has been your biggest challenge?

AL: My biggest challenge has been sketching on Illustrator. I am a paper and pencil kind of girl so I have had to get used to making a tech packet in a technical way.

What has been your favorite part so far?

AL: My favorite part so far has been observing the beginning of the design process and seeing how a collection starts and finishes. I am able to see what it really takes and experience things that are not taught in our classes.

What advice do you have for other students wanting to do an internship in the big city?

AL: I would say just to be brave and know that you can do it. With complete honesty I was extremely nervous and scared, but I kept going. Eventually I thought to myself, this is an experience that will make many memories. I knew that I would have been so mad at myself if I had chickened out.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

AL: Hopefully on a design team while working on my skills and networking with people and fully experiencing the industry. This all will help me to achieve my ultimate dream of having my own fashion brand.

Special thanks to Audrianna for taking time out of her busy schedule to answer these questions for me. If you are looking for an internship, like Audrianna said, you can go to Internships.com and browse the options available. If you want to know more about Audrianna and her experiences as a design intern, check out her blog. Thanks for reading!
